Orange Deelicious

It’s apparently throwback drink month here at Food-Dee.  I stumbled upon this recipe from Oatmeal with a Fork, and after claims that it tastes like an Orange Julius I just HAD to try it.  Like Lauren, I too would nosh on a slice of Sbarro pizza and sip an Orange Julius at the Meadow Glen Mall.  However, I shopped at Tello’s for color block shirts and Z Cavs, Bum Equipment and tight-rolled acid wash jeans.  Orange Julius is still around, but thank goodness the acid wash jeans are not.

If you don’t make this drink, you’re missing out on the closest thing I’ve found to the delicious Orange Julius (and it’s healthy!!!!).  I could drink this every day, and you seriously need to try it.  STAT.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (about 2-3 oranges)
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk (I used canned)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut palm sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • zest of half an orange
  • Approx. 1 cup of ice

Toss all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  Might be genius of you to add a dash of rum…..

Do you have a favorite “old school” drink or fashion disaster?  If so, please share in the comments!

  1. Danielle,
Where do I get coconut palm sugar!!!??? Have to make this (with rum) asap!

    • I found mine at Fresh Market, but I would imagine Whole Foods or Amazon would have it. You could use organic cane sugar, too.
